UMUT ADAN & ZEBÂNİS
BAŞKA BAHAR
Six Degrees Records | Album Release: March 6, 2026
Başka Bahar, the forthcoming full-length album by Turkish singer-songwriter Umut Adan and his band Zebânis, will be released on March 6, 2026 via Six Degrees Records.
The album fuses Anatolian psych, electronic abrasion, field recordings, and narrative songwriting into a cohesive statement. The music is at once psychedelic, poetic, hypnotic, and danceable.
The new album was conceived as a transnational, collective work which rejects both nostalgia and “exportable exoticism.” The music is built from disintegration and recomposition & comes from a place where analog warmth collides with digital fractures, melody meets improvisation, and psych textures dissolve into abrasive electronic landscapes. The result is a sonic collage that feels expansive and hallucinatory in scope, intimate in tone, hypnotic in flow, and ultimately physical in its pull toward movement.
Başka Bahar, took shape over several years, as Adan and the band moved nomadically between Istanbul, Turin, and Brussels. Tracking was done on a single laptop with portable instruments, embracing chance & imperfection. Through this unique process songs were assembled as living organisms rather than fixed compositions.
The band, Zebânis, consisting of players Andrea Marazzi, Michele Bussone, and Filippo Gillono (members of Turin’s Pietra Tonale collective ) do not merely accompany Adan, instead they challenge, amplify, and distort. The band operates with a DIY ethos rooted in the European underground.
Başka Bahar reinvents protest folk for the present tense.
Album Build-Up — The Singles
The album was introduced by the lead single “Bogotà” (September 25, 2025), a hypnotic protest anthem and a manifesto of danceable dissent. Anchored in Anatolian psych and propelled by the communal pulse of cumbia, the track transforms folk memory into a modern global groove. Fuzz-drenched guitars, trance-like basslines, and insistent percussion form a song of rebellion against all hierarchies — a call to rhythm, resistance, and freedom.
The second single “Sale Marino” (December 3, 2025) revealed the album’s most psych-folk moment and its most intimate city portrait. Written on a ferry drifting between Europe and Asia, the song turns the rhythm of travel into a contemplative groove. Jazz-tinged basslines, reverb-soaked guitars, and melodic, prosodic verses refract the overlapping calls of Istanbul’s neighborhoods into a real-world psychedelia of stone and air. Within it lives a city of salt and fog, fleeting love and quiet resistance — a place that both loves and wounds.
Together, these singles sketch the emotional and political map of Başka Bahar: protest and poetry intertwined, movement as resistance, and sound as a form of collective memory.
Born in Istanbul, in an apartment building where five different faiths lived side by side, Umut Adan grew up surrounded by cultural plurality and sonic fellowship. After moving to Italy as a student, he embraced diverse musical styles. A key moment in his career development came when he was invited by Jack White to open his Istanbul concert — a performance that drew the interest of legendary producer Liam Watson (The White Stripes, Elephant), who then brought him to London for recordings. This led to the release of his previous album 'Bahar' (Riverboat Records) which was praised by DownBeat (★★★★) and hailed by Magnet Magazine as best-in-genre.
Live
In support of Başka Bahar, Umut Adan & Zebânis will tour the UK extensively in April 2026, bringing their transnational psych-folk ritual to intimate clubs and festivals across the country. Immediately following the UK dates, the band will embark on a full European tour. The live show extends the record rather than reproducing it — each performance unfolding as an irregular expansion that can sabotage its own songs, shifting from narrative folk to noise, invocation to vertigo, with an openly anti-nostalgic, post-national stance.
